What a pleasure this workshop was. There were about 33 participants and all were very enthusiastic about the material I was presenting. With the help of Luisa and Ana (my translator), we picked 5 rich Spanish words that were full of inner meaning, rhythm and resonance. I split the participants into 5 group and gave each group one of the words. I then asked them to draw intonation shapes and to add the syllabic stress patterns. Then each group intoned the words, maintaining the intonation shape but changing dynamic and speed. FInally, I asked them to create a short scene expressing the meaning of each word using only sounds from their word plus one gesture. There was an 89 year old man there who called me 'an angel' . His group turned him into a monster and he growled a lot! It was great.
