From Language to Music and Back Again, Pamplona Oct 3rd

What a pleasure this workshop was. There were about 33 participants and all were very enthusiastic about the material I was presenting. With the help of Luisa and Ana (my translator), we picked 5 rich Spanish words that were full of inner meaning, rhythm and resonance. I split the participants into 5 group and gave each group one of the words. I then asked them to draw intonation shapes and to add the syllabic stress patterns. Then each group intoned the words, maintaining the intonation shape but changing dynamic and speed. Finally, I asked them to create a short scene expressing the meaning of each word using only sounds from their word plus one gesture. There was an 89 year old man there (i can't remember his name) who called me 'an angel' . His group turned him into a monster and he growled a lot.....fantastic!!
